Little Mill Creek Trail Description

The Little Mill Creek Trail offers a pleasant, woodsy route through Lenexa, about 14 miles southwest of Kansas City. The trail begins at Blackfish Parkway (along which you can hop on the Blackfish Parkway Trail) and heads south, soon reaching a T-juncture; here, you can head west on another trail into Lackman Park, or continue southeast toward Little Mill Creek North Park. After crossing 79th Street, you'll enter Little Mill Creek South Park. Both the north and south parks offer athletic fields and natural areas.

The trail ends at a staircase at 87th Street Parkway in a residential area. Cross the road to enter Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park, which has a lake, playground, picnic areas, restrooms, athletic fields and skate park. It also houses the Legler Barn Historical Museum, which documents the history of the region and includes a railroad caboose and restored depot.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking lots are available in Little Mill Creek North Park (79th Street and Cottonwood Street), Little Mill Creek South Park (79th Street and Mullen Road) and Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park (87th Street and Acuff Lane).

Little Mill Creek Trail Reviews

A Stream Runs Through It

I can’t imagine a more beautiful ride! It had rained early in the day so the stream was flowing beautifully. Most of the trail runs right along the water so you can enjoy it throughout. There were a few parts of the trail that were a little bit rough and it was more walkers than bikers, but I absolutely loved it!

Great Trail

I walk this almost every day and love it. The distance is not correct however. This trail is easily 4-5 miles one way. Love the creek by the walk and all of the trees. It’s also safe and a gorgeous walk.

Love this trail

This is probably my favorite trail in the KC metro because it feels like you're stepping into a hidden world. You descend the steps from 87th Street and suddenly you're on this winding path through people's gardens and the smell of lilacs. The trail winds through groves of historic trees, a beautiful park, meadows and some shady cliffs. It's not the most strenuous walk around, but for good exertion and a great atmosphere, it's perfect.

Nice ride

We rode our bikes on this trail today. Because of recent storms there was a lot of debris, mud, and water on the trail. But that's not the trails fault. If was a nice mixture of small hills and turns. Were both asphalt and pavement sections. Both could be a little smoother but overall was a nice ride. Would recommend for both riders and walkers.

Such a beautiful space!

Spring has finally arrived & I wanted a fresh place to walk my dog. This trail is safe, gorgeous and overall an absolute delight.
