Description

Middle Creek Trail provides a gentle 2-mile climb along a former railroad bed from the river bottom up to its intersection with Iron Mountain Road. From there, the trail follows an old stage coach road and becomes steeper as it makes its way to Highway 299 on the edge of Shasta State Historic Park, where a future extension will provide easy access to the ruins of an old Gold Rush settlement. On their journey, trail-goers will enjoy scenic views through quiet Northern California forests abundant with wildlife. Access to the Sacaramento River Trail is available from the trail's eastern tip.

Parking and Trail Access

From State Highway 299 West, turn north on Iron Mountain Road; proceed approximately 1 mile, then turn right on Middle Creek Road and proceed approximately 100 yards to the parking area for the trail. The trail is also accessible directly from State Highway 299 in Old Shasta, where it intersects with Middle Creek Road.
