Pioneer Spirit Trail Description

The Pioneer Spirit Trail zigzags across Hastings, Neb. The concrete trail weaves through parks, whisks by schools and homes and past business, making this trail suitable for not just recreation but commuting as well. The longest connected section trip you can take (as of 2019) is nearly 9 miles long, beginning at Lib Park, north through Lake Hastings Park, even further north to Prairie Ridge Park, and then south past American Legion Park and along the fence of the Hastings Cemetery. The trail then cuts through Hastings Park and then goes south into Downtown Hastings paralleling Eastside Boulevard.

A short unconnected segment is in the west of the city from Hastings Middle School, along Marian Road, up til 9th Street. Another segment runs along the northern border of Brickyard Park along D Street.

The entire trail is suitable for walking and bike riding. There are plans underway to build those missing connections, creating a bike-ped loop around the city.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available at Lake Hastings Park along South Shore Drive.

Pioneer Spirit Trail Reviews

Wide, new concrete.

Read somewhere that Hastings rcvd a Green Town award. The Pioneer Spirit is a linked set of trails, mostly quiet enough to hear the birds. Runs by a college and at least three parks. Then on into town. I also rode a new segment from my hotel out into cornfield territory, where the sky is enormous!
