John C. Phelps Trail Description

The John C. Phelps Trail is a part of the City of Dallas trails system that provides connections between neighborhoods, schools, parks, public transportation, and other community facilities. Along with the Honey Springs-Cedar Crest Trail, the John C. Phelps Trail forms 6 miles of paved paths in southern Dallas.

Although the trail is currently split into two sections, there are plans to connect them for a total of 2.7 miles of trail. Running along S Corinth St Rd and E Illinois Ave for 1.2 miles, the trail curves around the Cedar Crest Golf Course. At .8 miles long, the shorter trail segment acts as a connection between Wonderview Park, Boren-Hilseweck Park and John C. Phelps Park, as well as connecting the neighborhoods west of Corinth Street with the DART’s Illinois Station.

John C. Phelps Trail Reviews

Nothing Too Special

I hiked this trail immediately after the Santa Fe Trestle Trail and it didn't hold up to what I had already enjoyed there. The trail consists of a dirt path amongst trees east of the parking area and a blacktop path passing through Robert Oren Park to the west. The park and road were packed with people playing / watching a soccer game going on. The playground was overrun with kids making a quiet hike an impossible task.

There was nothing overly scenic to stop and look at or take pictures of, and the neighborhood the trail is located in is, how shall I put it...less than optimal. If hiking this trail, buddy up, no matter the time of day, or day of the week.
