St. Joe Trail Description

The St. Joe Trail in Grand Island, Nebraska, runs for nearly 3 miles from its connection with the John Brownell Trail at Ada Street to its southern endpoint at George Clayton Hall County Park. For most of its route, the St. Joe Trail parallels an active rail corridor, making this trail one of an ever-increasing number of rail-with-trail projects around the country.

The St. Joe Trail travels behind some of Grand Island's residential neighborhoods, as well as the city's Sothman Park, before veering off course from the railroad to pass directly in front of Bellevue University and Central Community College. The trail then skirts the property line of the Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer—a living history village and museum dedicated to the early pioneer history of Nebraska—before ending its course at George Clayton Hall County Park and its extensive network of trails.

Those yearning for a longer journey can take the John Brownell Trail northeast to Pier Park and beyond from the St. Joe Trail's northern trailhead at Ada Street.
