Jim Dutcher Trail

I guess

August, 2024 by swvn2cp6ym

It’s ok. A little on the boring side. Better than a kick in the head

Shiloh Road Trail

Really nice trail. Unfortunately there are a couple bad roundabouts to be extra cautious for.

BBWA Canal Trail

residential trail

The trail runs through residential area. Your next a small fast water moving canal for a small part of trail. Goes by park. Newer cement. Nice dog walking but not very scenic.

Trail closed at I-90 until July 2024

October, 2021 by ggwbikemt

The Yellowstone River bridge at I-90 is being replaced. Since the trail goes under I-90 at this location, the trail underpass will be closed until July 2024. The no nearby crossings for a detour. The web site for the construction is https://www.mdt.mt.gov/pubinvolve/i90yellowstone/

Leisure ride

September, 2021 by opeesmiles

Perfect for a family ride. Took 5 of us about an hour to go from St Mary Rd in the Heights to the Yellowstone River parking lot just past the 90 overpass and back. Ages 13-49 were on the trip. We weren’t pushing it at all.

NPRR history

July, 2021 by mdturley

The north end of this is part of a NPRR spur that went to Shepard to serve the grain elevator there. Paved with concrete a access to Two Moon Park and Wal Mart! So that part is truly a Rails to Trails.

King Avenue East Trail

Short and Sweet

It’s really nice if you don’t have much time or just want a short walk it’s great. Only downside is it’s next to a busy street.

Great trail and views

September, 2019 by normanbowers

If you are riding in Billings don't miss this trail. There is a half mile long hill to get up on a ridge that overlooks the city.

Park at the parking lot at the pioneer cemetery behind Applebee's(204 Main), cross the street and the trail goes up the hill. If you go down the hill you end up at Alkali Creek trail.

Alkali Creek Trail

Just a wide sidewalk

September, 2019 by normanbowers

This trail is a wide sidewalk along the street that kind of follows Alkali Creek. There are prettier rides in Billings. This trail does connect with the Swords Park Trail.

Good parking at the pioneer cemetery behind Applebee's (204 Main)

Good ride along river

September, 2019 by normanbowers

Nice paved trail along the river, fairly flat and smooth with nice views. The north couple of miles is on an abandoned railroad grade through neighborhoods. Just south of the bridge over Alkali Creek near the sewer plant is the turnoff to get to Alkali Creek trail and Swords Park Trail. This connection goes under HWY 87(Main Street) but still a couple of blocks riding on the sidewalk.

Lake Elmo Trail

Lake Elmo Trail

The trail is classified as easy with benches to sit and view the the lake. The path is not paved its all gravel until you get to the parking lot. I rate it a 8 star for ease and view.

Skeleton Cliff and Yellowstone Kelly Interpretive Site

May, 2018 by anne.cole

Make sure to take a short (100 yards) detour one mile east end of the trailhead parking area to see the newly-opened Yellowstone Kelly Interpretive Site where frontiersman Yellowstone Kelly was buried. There are interpretive panels about the history of the area.

Skeleton Cliff, just a little further east, is the site of the Crow Tribe's burial area, where the dead were actually placed in the trees.
