Yellowstone Shortline Trail

Loved the Shortline Trail

July, 2025 by william heck

My wife and I rode the Shortlineline trail on a recent visit to Yellowstone. We had a terrific time. The scenery was breathtaking. Especially the parts of the trail that ran next to the South Fork of the Madison river. The trail ascends at a very gentle 1% to 3% grade. But we were super impressed with how well maintained the trail is and the informational signs along the way were excellent and very interesting. Personally, we were kind of grateful that E bikes are not permitted on the trail. I’m sure that’s somewhat controversial, but it definitely meant that this experience for us was extremely peaceful and quieted our souls.

Yellowstone Shortline Trail

Beautiful ride

July, 2025 by shelleyjax

First, it states on here that no e-bikes are allowed. One of the staff at the campground we were staying, said she sees e-bikes on it all the time. So, we took our chances. Yes, there are several signs stating no e-bikes. We kept our speed around 10 mph, and always pedaled. Very peaceful and beautiful trail. We saw a coyote and a deer. Riding along the shoreline of the river was serene.

Ashton-Tetonia Trail

Scenic ride thru fields

July, 2025 by paulz

I started in Tetonia. If I were to do it again, I would start in Ashton. The gentle elevation change is upwards from Ashton for a few miles. The Tetons are in your view in that direction. There is very little shade on the trail. The trail is hard dirt and gravel. Gravel bikes or mtn bikes suggested. No services on the trail. Traveling thru Ag country mostly flat. Biggest hills are on the detour road.

Railroad Right-of-Way Trail

Warm River Campground up the Canyon

June, 2025 by paulz

Coming From Warm River Campground, the Trail goes up gently 3.5 miles to the collapsed Tunnel. The trail continues till about mile 6 all along with great views of the river and deep canyon. I continued riding till about mile 12.5 and returned. After about mile 6, the trail leveled off and continued thru cattle pastures and flat land with 2 ponds. The trail was mostly hard dirt with gravel. A Gravel bike or Mountain Bike would be suitable bike. No services or water on the route.

Beautiful fall ride

The leaves were in their fall glory of colors. The ride was beautiful and the trail was great. We started from Tetonia. We will be back to do again.

Bear Gulch Beauty

October, 2024 by jeff.steele

We’re from TN vacationing in YNP Decided to see Mesa Falls & ride the trail since Bear Gulch Trailhead was approx 4-miles from Mesa Falls. Trail was beautiful. Almost as pretty as Route of Hiawatha. We had Mtn Bikes with zero problems.

Ashton-Tetonia Trail

Beautiful scenery, flat ride

June, 2024 by joelylackey

Rode this trail June 2024 from Lamont to Tetonia. Gorgeous scenery of wide open lush farmland with the Tetons in the background. i chose this section because I didn't have enough time to do the full stretch and I wanted to see the bridge over Bitch Creek. It did not disappoint.

Tiny parking lots at Lamont and Felt enable you to jump on/jump off. It took me 2.5 hours on an e-bike but using the assistance at a minimum. There is a cafe in Tetonia if you are hungry when you arrive, or go another 7 miles to Driggs (no known bike path, but had our car there).

Trail is mostly gravel and only a few spots with loose sand. Definitely recommend!

Ashton-Tetonia Trail

A Potential Jewel

September, 2023 by jmclincoln

Road 8 miles from Tetonia to Ashton where we were finally forced to turn around. The trail is gravel, yes, but variable sized rock which push tires sideways as well as rough. It’s also a two-track. I ride a recumbent trike which meant I always had a tire in the overgrown median. We turned around after we were overwhelmed by the thistles which hit us in the face and shoulders. On our return to Tetonia we met two groups. One was a family with 3 under 8 years. I thought how unfriendly the trail is to someone with a child trailer.

Tetonia too Ashton

Today we rode towards Ashton to the 15-mile marker. This side is incredibly beautiful with the Tetons constantly looming in the background and the straw yellow fields making perfect contrast for pictures.

Ashton to Tetonia Trail

August, 2023 by arettschlag

We rode from Ashton toward Tetonia to the 15-mile marker. It was a beautiful fairly flat rail trail. There was only one spot that diverted around private land. This diversion takes you on a few hilly spots for a couple of miles but all doable. There are two bridges on this stretch that cross lovely river gorges! And you have the backdrop of the Teton range in front of you on the way out. It’s ever so slightly climbing toward Tetonia so it was much faster on the way back to our van.

Ashton-Tetonia Trail

Absolutely scenic

July, 2023 by che00005

This was a fantastic trail. My husband and I completed on June 27 2023 from Ashton to Tetonia. The Tetons were in view the entire ride and the rolling fields and old homesteads felt like a trip back in time. I highly recommend this trail.

Railroad Right-of-Way Trail

Should not be on TrailLink at this time.

July, 2022 by jon.carroll_tl

This trail is so rough and ground down to almost sand that I literally could not enjoy any scenery do to having to keep my eyes focused on 3 feet in front of me at all times. ATVs have absolutely ruined this trail to the point it isn’t even decent for them.
