Lyle Talbot (1902–1996) grew up in the village of Brainard, Nebraska, where he lived with his grandmother at their family-owned hotel (unsurprisingly named the Talbot Hotel). Following his childhood in Brainard, Talbot began his acting career in 1931 and scored a contract with Warner Bros. Talbot appeared in more than 150 movies, television shows and plays throughout his life, including over 70 episodes of the ABC sitcom “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet.” In addition to acting, he was a founding member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and was actively involved in the unionization of the film industry. He faced retaliation for this activism, eventually leading to Warner Bros. terminating him from its roster. Talbot continued acting in smaller roles well into his 80s. Even after his death, Brainard continues to remember Lyle Talbot as part of the village’s history. [1]
