Learn the history of the Meskwaki Nation at the tribe's cultural center and museum in Tama, Iowa, where you can view artifacts like arrowheads, pottery, clothing, jewelry and photographs that provide insight into Meskwaki culture and traditions. Poet Ray Young Bear, who was born in 1950, grew up on the Meskwaki Tribal Settlement. You can read Young Bear’s 2015 poem “Four Hinterland Abstractions” in The New Yorker, and listen to him read and discuss his word-song, "Wichihaka/The One I Live With," on the Library of Congress website.
