Sea Mar Museum of Chicano/a Latino/a Culture

Located in South Park in Seattle, Washington, the Sea Mar Museum aims to celebrate the rich culture of our country’s Mexican American community, highlighting historical contributions, and showcasing artifacts and artforms of Chicano/as and Latino/as in the Pacific Northwest. The concept for the 8,500-square foot museum emerged in 2005 as an extension of the Sea Mar Community Health Centers—a network of community-based service providers founded by students at the University of Washington in 1978.

The name Sea Mar comes from the first three letters of Seattle and Marysville, where the first two health centers were located. Construction of the museum began in 2016, and in October 2019, the museum opened to the public. By 2025, the museum hopes to complete Phase II, which will add an additional 4,000–5,000 square feet of exhibit and programming space and allow more stories of immigrants from Latin America to be showcased.
