Nature & Environmental Management

A photo taken in 1975 of the log cabin Wapiti Ranger Station.

In 1903, the Wapiti Ranger Station was constructed as the first federally funded ranger station. Still standing in the original location chosen by rangers Harry Thurston and Milt Benedict west of Cody, Wyoming, Wapiti continues to serve as a visitor center at Shoshone National Forest.
