Paralleling its namesake thoroughfare, the I-40 Trail stretches across Albuquerque from Unser Boulevard to Tramway Boulevard. Although major gaps in the trail currently exist, it's an important east-west route through the city.
Along the way, trail-goers will enjoy views of two of the area's most impressive physical features: the Rio Grande and the Sandia Mountains. The trail's eastern segment also offers access to Los Altos Park and Sandia Vista Park, providing additional recreational opportunities. As the trail crosses the Rio Grande, trail users are treated to the impressive Gail Ryba Memorial Pedestrian Bridge and scenic views of the river.
On the western end, the trail crosses paths with the Unser Boulevard Trail, another lengthy roadside trail that continues north and south along the western edge of the city. A short segment of the trail continues on the other side of Unser Boulevard, leading into the suburban blocks within the Parkway neighborhood.
