BBWA Canal Trail Description

The BBWA Canal Trail offers nearly 3 miles of paved pathway in western Billings, mostly along the Billings Bench Water Association Canal. The waterway, used for irrigation and storm drainage, dates back to the early 1900s.

From the trail's northern endpoint, you can cross Broadwater Avenue and follow the sidewalk connector north along Parkview Drive through Lillis Park, which offers basketball and tennis courts, picnic sites and a playground. Alternatively, you could follow the sidewalk west along the north side of Broadwater Avenue to reach the Zimmerman Trail.

If you continue south, the views will be primarily residential. At Howard Avenue, a pedestrian bridge across the canal connects students at Meadowlark Elementary School with the trail. Further south, after crossing Central Avenue, trail-goers can access Stewart Park, which provides basketball courts, ballfields, picnic sites, a playground and restrooms.

At King Avenue West, you can follow the sidewalk along the south side of the roadway to reach the King Avenue West Trail that continues west and offers access to stores and restaurants. More retail opportunities are available from the south end of the trail.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking can be found along neighborhood streets, at Meadowlark Elementary School (221 29th Street West), or at Stewart Park (west of the Central Avenue and S. 24th Street W. intersection).

BBWA Canal Trail Reviews

residential trail

The trail runs through residential area. Your next a small fast water moving canal for a small part of trail. Goes by park. Newer cement. Nice dog walking but not very scenic.
