This short paved path runs between an active railroad and Simpson Creek in the City of Bridgeport. Connecting Bridgeport City Park (250 City Park Dr) with Bridgeport's public recreational area that includes basketball courts, tennis courts, the City Pool, and the offices for the City's Department of Parks & Recreation. From its southern endpoint at the dead-end of Railway Rd, the sparsely wooded trail winds along the creek and ends at the City Park, which has baseball fields, basketball courts, a playground, trash receptacles, drinking fountains, restrooms (including an accessible restroom), a little free library, and a large picnic shelter. There are also benches along the trail providing places to rest on the route.
Parking is available at the northwestern end of the trail in a large lot at Bridgeport City Park (250 City Park Dr), which has several accessible spaces. At the southern end, parking is available in several parking lots by the City's basketball courts, tennis courts, and the City Pool. Access to these parking lots is on N Virginia Ave between Northwestern Turnpike and Worthington Dr. Accessible parking spaces are available.
We were in Bridgeport today and decided to check out the trail starting from the east end. There is no parking right at the trailhead but there is parking across North Virginia Ave at a small park area. After crossing N Virginia and Water St there is a nice metal footbridge across Simpson Creek and after a short walk on Railroad St you are at the trail. The entire trail is nicely paved and just an overall pleasant experience. We were there in mid-March and the area was covered with the green leaves and yellow flowers of lesser celandine which were very pretty. There were a few people on the trail and it was relatively quiet. The trail goes up and down some and is near an active railroad which appears not to get a lot of use. After about 3/4 mile you reach the Bridgeport City Park which looks very nice and has a trail around it also. Of course you could park at this end and start also. No where along the trail is it named and some places have it listed as the Bridgeport City Park Trail. Only four stars because it's so short. If you're in the area and want a quick little walk, give this a try.
