The Duck Lake Nature Area Trail follows the southern side of Lake Como between Lake Geneva and Como, Wisconsin, not far from the Illinois state line. The trail is more rustic than most rail-trails and is restricted to hikers only.
Scenery abounds along the former rail bed, and a variety of birds call the area home. In fact, the trail is alternatively known as “Warbler Walkway” due to the frequent appearances—or rather unseen chirps—of that species on the trail.
There are no official parking areas for the Duck Lake Nature Area Trail, but the trail can be accessed in residential areas on both ends (South Shore Road in the west and Edgewood Drive in the east).
This trail was actually a former C&NW railway that served Lake Geneva and terminated in Williams Bay. Service to Williams Bay started in 1888 and ended in 1965. Service to Lake Geneva ended in 1975. Thanks to Maxine Thoorsell for starting the conversion of turning this former railway into a nature trail. It is an easy grass covered walk and the trail is 1.7 miles in length. You can also access the trail at the boat launch to the west...behind the barn. A separate trail that is part of this former railway extends from Williams Bay Northeast up to Hwy 50 in the Kishwaukeetoe Conservancy
A nice trail off the main trail. A bit of rough terrain, rocks, lots of vegetation, pretty flowers. Lots of bugs, take bug spray. It's a.63 mile trail that ends at a small dam. It was good for a beginner hiker like me.
