The Jordan Creek Greenway Trail is a planned 14-mile trail with the dual purposes of protecting the health of the creek and its ecosystem, and connecting communities within the Lehigh Valley. When complete, the trail will run through Allentown, Whitehall, North Whitehall and South Whitehall, to the Trexler Nature Preserve.
Whitehall Township completed its first 1.2 miles of trail in 2011. Today, there are over two miles of trail, beginning at Jordan Park in Allentown and continuing through Jordan Creek Parkway in Whitehall. The trail is a combination of blacktop and crushed stone, and travels through the thick creekside woodlands and park amenities like a swimming pool (Jordan Park) and a world-class disc golf course (Jordan Creek Parkway). Both parks also feature picnic and sports amenities.
Another segment just short of a mile is open in neighboring South Whitehall. The trail starts on Wehr Mill Road, just north of the Covered Bridge, right along the creek, and features two boardwalk segments overlooking the wetlands. Another two miles from Wehr Mill Road to Cedar Crest Boulevard are in the design stage.
Trailheads with parking for the Whitehall segment include:
In South Whitehall, park at Covered Bridge Park is located at 2465 Wehr Mill Rd, Allentown. The park has its own walking trail running the length of the park.
Beautiful wilderness amid the city.
The flow of the trail is perfect as it follows the creek.
Had a nice Sunday morning ride on this trail. I started on the west side. I did not see anyone else on the trail. There are a lot of nice shady areas on the trail. The surface was smooth for riding until I crossed over onto MacArthur Road. The trail surface had golf ball sized gravel rocks from MacArthur Road to the east end of the trail, so I opted to ride on the grassy area next to the the trail for this portion of my ride.
