The Mystic River Greenway is part of the Mystic Greenways trail system, which also includes the Wellington Greenway and the Malden River Greenway. When completed, the trail will connect the Charlestown Waterfront to Arlington and Cambridge. There are also plans to build a bridge over the Mystic River at Draw Seven Park, connecting the trail to the Malden River Greenway.
The Mystic River Greenway starts at Draw Seven Park, close to the Assembly T stop and the Assembly Row neighborhood. The trail follows the Mystic River for the entire route. Although it passes by urban and suburban neighborhoods, the area around the immediately around the trail is forested.
The trail extends over the river on a wooden bridge to pass under Fellsway. There is a gap in the trail along SR 16/Mystic Valley Pkwy in Medford. The trail restarts in the center of Medford. It passes through Veterans Memorial Park, then crosses the Mystic River at Mystic Valley Pkwy and Auburn St. After crossing Alewife Brook, the trail meets the Alewife Greenway Bike Path, which goes south to the Alewife T stop and Cambridge. The Mystic River Greenway ends at High St in Arlington. An unpaved trail continues on the other side of the river to Upper and Lower Mystic Lake and Winchester.
Parking for the first segment is available at Draw Seven Park (Noonan Pl, Somerville) and at Blessing of the Bay Boat House (32 Shore Dr, Somerville). The first segment is also accessible from the Assembly T stop. Parking for the second segment is available in the Mystic River Reservation, on Mystic Valley Pkwy east of Winthrop St in Medford.
Useful as a connector and seems to be popular for recreation but you’re next to a highway the whole time
Great trail to run, bike or walk along the mystic river
