Racine County Bike Trail (Route of the Badger) Description

Helping to extend the excellent network of trails around the city of Racine deeper west into the heart of the county, the Racine County Bike Trail serves as a disconnected addition to the Racine-Sturtevant Trail, carrying trail users through large industrial campuses and into the small village of Sturtevant. Although the trail mostly runs along the sides of roads and offers little shade, it is wide, paved, and almost entirely flat, which helps to make up for some of its deficiencies in natural beauty.

Bike lanes along Willow Road allow you to access the trail from the south at the end of the Racine-Sturtevant Trail, although there is currently no sidewalk along the road to accommodate pedestrians. The trail begins about a half mile up the road, and turns to head west along 16th Street and Rayne Road. Along the way, trail users will pass by the charming Saint Bonaventure Pond, a small nature area within the village that acts as a reprieve from the industrial surroundings.

Individually, the trail may not have the same draw as other, more scenic trails in the area, but considered as a part of the larger trail system, the Racine County Bike Trail serves a useful purpose and helps cyclists and pedestrians to be able to cover even more ground in the region.

Parking and Trail Access

No dedicated parking is available for this trail. Racine Transit bus lines do offer service along part of the route, and the trail can also be reached via bike lanes on Willow Road from the Racine-Sturtevant Trail.
