The Rappahannock Canal Walk follows the old towpath along the disused canal just northwest of downtown Fredericksburg. The path follows a winding course past old suburban back yards and through a wooded corridor with a rural feel.
At the east end of the trail is the town's main street (US 1/17/Princess Anne Street), which takes you into the historical downtown. The western end of the trail passes by the hospital, where you can link to the Mary Washington Hospital Trail. The trail also connects to the Rappahannock River Heritage Trail at both ends, forming a trail loop of just over three miles.
Park in the lot on Fall Hill Avenue just west of Normandy Avenue.
I love it. Lots of joggers & dog walkers. Room for everyone most of the time. Very nice, mostly level with some small rises & declines. Wouldn't be problem for even an,inexperienced rider (like me) with a decent bike.
Sweet little ride that runs along the Rappahannock for a bit. We are novice bikers so this was a perfect ride for us. Went off trail and downtown Fredericksburg for a bit. The only problem was that the parking area on Falls Rd is under construction and there is a detour thru a neighborhood. Not a big deal. You can park in this neighborhood as there are no restrictions. Met a lot of joggers and dog walkers along the way..
