Even before the a trail was developed, the residents of Stockertown were enthusiastically walking along the former railroad corridor that cut through the borough. Now, 1.1 miles of packed cinder welcome users to walk and bike from Main Street south to Sherman Metzgar Park, named after the late mayor and champion of the rail trail. While on it's own it mainly serves the local area residents, extensions could potentially connect it to the Plainfield Township Trail and the Palmer Township Recreational Trail , and thus to the extensive Pennsylvania trail system.
The only reason to ride this trail is to add a little mileage to riding the Plainfield Trail. It would be really great if they could connect it to the nearby Tatamy Trail.
