Stretching for three miles from the University of New Mexico golf course to the very southeastern fringes of development in Albuquerque, the University Boulevard Trail provides a wide, paved pathway perfect for jogging and cycling along the side of the boulevard. On the trail's southern end, a large county recreation complex sits right next to the entrance to the Isleta Amphitheater, a popular outdoor music venue. The northern end of the trail lies situated between the sprawling golf course complex and industrial parks that service the nearby Albuquerque International Sunport - airplane enthusiasts will certainly get plenty of opportunities to spot planes from the trail.
The rolling hills along the trail (be prepared for plenty of ups and downs) offer some nice views of the surrounding mountains to the east, as well as the southern edge of the city to the west. Along the way, be sure to get some photos of the massive rattlesnake sculpture that lies in the median of the road - which also serves as a reminder to keep your eyes peeled for the real thing as you traverse the trail. While its roadside nature makes the trail feel a bit less natural or secluded than other trails, the University Boulevard Trail still provides a great path for recreation, and one that offers some interesting and unique sightseeing opportunities.
Parking may be available at the northern end of the trail at the University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course, located at 3601 University Boulevard, and at the southern end of the trail at the Scholer Regional Recreation Complex, located at 5601 University Boulevard. Be sure to follow any posted parking signs and regulations.
