Grand Canal Path

Nice, in some spots

Not so nice in others: homeless and questionable activities. The path itself is great, wide and smooth. It was clear and clean in the distance I went. Some ducks and fish in the water, as well as a few shopping carts.

New River Trail

unexpectedly good trail in Phoenix

We parked at Rio Vista Community Park. Beautiful Park. Lots of people and parking. From the Park you can also access Skunk Creek Trail which we got on by accident for a few miles but then turned around and came back and got the New River Trail. We did the section on both sides of the river (dry! lol) but quite a few beautiful Palo Verde trees along the trail. Will go back and head further south from the park towards Sun City. Nice trail with no street crossing interruptions.

Really enjoyed this trail. Close to our resort and easy access. Not busy during the week. Well marked, going again today.

Grand Canal Path

Grand Canal Trail

I agree with a few of the comments made by others here. I have now ridden this trail a few times and it seems that as you go towards Glendale you will ride through some sketchier areas. There are a lot of surface crossings. Just as you get a good rhythm going, you have to stop. The crossing at 16th and Indian School road is tough. Mostly the surface is clean. One side of the canal is concrete and the other is gravel (with some glass)

Western Canal Path

Yes there are plenty of intersections, but a fun ride in good shape. One of my favorites!

Western Canal Path

Too many streets to cross

November, 2022 by tim.pearson0520

Stay away from the South Mountain side in Laveen. Not only is there almost zero shade, the surface is broken pavement with a mixture of some light gravel. There are some sketchy neighborhood spots that you have to run behind. But most importantly, way too many streets to cross without any crosswalks. Every other block you have to cross a street. And you have to fight traffic (sometimes standing in the middle because you can only get across one part of the traffic at a time). This really isn’t a trail, but a access road for powerline workers to

Western Canal Path

Great Trail

June, 2022 by denise9112

This is a long trail. Start early to beat the heat because the Heat almost got us and that was returning 9:39 am It’s all paved but most of it is open hardly any trees to block the Sun.. So your exposed.. But being paved gentle on the bike and us.

New River Trail

Nice trail, good pavement, minimal shade

My wife and I started our ride at the Fletcher Heights Trailhead at W Deer Valley Rd and rode south to where the trail crosses N Ball Park Rd (near the Grand Canal Trail) before turning back. The trail is well paved with concrete. There is no tree cover, but the overpasses do provide shade.

Grand Canal Path

Nice section in Glendale

March, 2022 by pcraze

I parked at the Glendale Heroes Regional Park by the playground/restrooms. To access the canal trail, ride on the trail around the lake and it connects to the canal trail. Head east under the underpass and enjoy a pleasant ride along residential areas and the Grand Canal Linear Park. When you reach 75th Ave & Camelback Rd just turn around as their are no underpasses any further and you have to cross busy roads. I continue further to 59th Ave, but it was scary to cross busy roads without lights and parts of the path became loose gravel. Also the neighbor hood deteriorated into areas of blight. with no past the library to get on the trail around the lake

Every five minutes you come across a car intersection. Depending on the traffic you will have to dismount.
