Sugar Pine Railway - Strawberry Branch

Snow trail in Dec.

January, 2017 by ariel2kids

We passed the road leading into the trail on accident and stopped at the Summit Ranger station in Pinecrest for directions. We found out that the Fraser Flat Road trailhead was closed on Dec. 30th due to snow. The helpful ranger suggested that we pick up the trail on Old Sugar Pine road.
The trail head on Old Sugar Pine road (residential area) is very poorly marked. In fact we missed it because the marker was behind a tree and was only visible coming from the other direction.
From hwy 108 its 1.8 miles in on the left, if you cross over a small bridge you went to far.
After asking one of the residence we found the trail which was covered in snow. We did find markers 8 and 9 but, unfortunately we weren't prepared with info. to find out the historic value.
I can see why the mention of the Meadow and picking up trail on the other side would be hard. If it wasn't for the foot prints in the show I don't know if we would have found it.
With all that being said.....IT WAS BEAUTIFUL!
I will for sure being attempting this easy trail again in the spring.
Family friendly trail.

Tahoe Trailways Bike Path

Sugar Pine Point SP to Squaw Valley

October, 2016 by mr. xyz

Very nice ride with the exception of what I call the "Homewood Death Strip". Basically a construction project that has gone on for years, has no known end point and is dangerous to navigate. Most the trail along the lake is older bike trail, so don't expect it to be up to more modern engineering standards, but is very scenic. The trail west from Tahoe City to Squaw Valley was wonderful and modern, too bad it does not go all the way to Truckee. To do that you have to venture out on the highway with the concurrent noise and bad driving habits. Best time to go is a week after Labor Day, no crowds, very relaxing. Would give it 5 stars if it were not marred by the Homewood stretch. Town needs to get its act together.

Union Valley Bike Trail

Great trail

August, 2016 by vincentsrose

I cycled from Jones Creek Camp Ground to Wench Creek camp ground and back.It is a fully paved trail among the trees along the water next to the reservoir. You'll pass lots of camp sites but few people on the actual trail. I saw a group of three cyclists at the end and two more on my way back. My daughter had fun riding in her trailer and the hills are tempered with just as many down slopes.

Sawmill Bike Path

Nice place for a trail to access South Tahoe HS

August, 2016 by spkh

The Sawmill trail is now complete from HWY 50/89 to South Tahoe HS. I join this trail with the Pat Lowe Memorial trail in Meyers. The combination is about 5-6 miles one way. A real nice 11 mile round trip on our tandem.

The first part of the trail crosses several business entrances in Meyers but after that there are but 4 street crossings all the way to the home of the vikings.

The trail has minimal elevation change and accesses some Mountain Bike trails near the north end. There are several restaurants near the very south end.

Nice forest setting. nice wild flowers. Nice trail - well maintained. It is now but a short run along Lake Tahoe BLVD to get to the Y - only a couple of short residential streets from Eloise Street - that accesses Pope and Baldwin Beaches.

Sawmill Bike Path

They have just cut the beautiful trees in my front yard...

September, 2015 by antoniahall

Terrible. This trail goes right through our front yard on Sawmill Road. They have just now cut down the 100+ year old trees along our driveway to make way for this ridiculous bike trail which costs millions of taxpayer dollars to construct. The trail took out some beautiful trees and now the views are less than optimal along it, with one of our neighbors putting up the ugliest cyclone fence imaginable for 1/2 mile right on the trail which borders his property. Enjoy the Tahoe views! Meanwhile, Sawmill Road is full of pot holes and cracks due to the heavy equipment that has been going up and down the road to construct this white elephant. The trail ends at the "Y" and starts at Meyers. Big deal. It doesn't connect to the beaches at all-- it is truly a trail to nowhere unless you want to hang out at the "Y". I will be planting even more trees to hide this monstrosity which has totally reduced the privacy and peace at our house.

Tahoe Trailways Bike Path

Great classic bike trail!

July, 2015 by delste

This is a great bike ride we try to do every year. Easy enough for the whole family. The paving is seeing some wear and it can get crowded during the busy season. Another great one is the brand new Truckee River Legacy Trail that can be accessed from downtown Truckee. Is is less crowded and is away from all roads as it follows the River down to the Glenshire subdivision.

Tahoe Trailways Bike Path

West Shore, Best Shore

June, 2015 by cayhorner

If you are on foot from Tahoe City to Sugar Pine Point, the lake is always in view, up close and personal. Fantasize on which lakeside house or estate you'd like to own. My favorite is a small see-through A frame with loft, my dream of a convenient, low-maintenance Tahoe getaway. Spend some time walking the cross-country ski trail in summer at Sugar Pine Point. It meanders through the Ehrman Mansion property and ends at the entrance to Meeks Bay on a secluded rocky beach with a magnificent view of the peaks and points all the way to the South Shore.

Carson City Trail (V&T Rail-Trail)

Easy family trail

May, 2013 by summersclan

We parked at the little dirt lot off of Murphy and Vanpatten near the North trail head. We followed the trail all the way to Kings Canyon before turning around. And of course we stopped at the park to play for a little before riding back to eat at the our vehicle. Nice paved trail through a residential area.

Tahoe Trailways Bike Path

July, 2012 by loneviking61

The trail up the western side of the lake really begins at Sugar Pine Point. It's a California State Park, day use costs $10. From there, head north on a paved MPU. Except for about a 1 mile stretch through the little town of Homewood you are on either a paved MPU or a paved street through a quiet residential area. The scenery is beautiful, the terrain is mostly level to smaller hills with one steep hill in a residential area that has everyone breathing like a freight train! Lots of families out biking along this pathway that eventually comes out along the Truckee river in Tahoe City. Right where the trail meets the Truckee river is the Bridgetender Resturant, which is a great place to pick up lunch. The dam which lets water out of Lake Tahoe and into the Truckee is just across the Rump Bridge and the bike path goes right past it. From Tahoe City, you can meander around this nice little town or you can take off and head for Squaw Valley. Along this MPU from Sugar Pine Point to Tahoe City, there is stretch that runs right alongside the lakeshore. There are faucets to refill water bottles with, and clean, well maintained restrooms as well. Round trip from Sugar Pine Point to Tahoe City and back is about 20 miles.

Union Valley Bike Trail

Fun ride

October, 2011 by mattlc1@hotmail.com

I thought this trail was fun and the scenery was beautiful. There are two campgrounds accessable only by this trail and they are both very nice and I can't wait to camp there when they open up again next year. Quite a bit of up and down, but the trail itself is two lane bike path pavement so the overall ride was not very tiring. It is a reservoir so towards the end of summer the water levels can be pretty low and therefore the lake isn't as pretty, but I think in early summer it must be beautiful and I'm sure there are lots of people who go out and use this trail.

Fun Trail

July, 2010 by noeljkelller

An active scenic trail, except for a few short steep grades, it is surprising easy grade. Trail surface has some rough cracks, some marked with paint. Parking in Tahoe City or at Squaw Valley Rd. Noel Keller,11 Jul 2010
