Tobacco River Memorial Trail (Kootenai Trail)

Peaceful but a bridge is missing

August, 2024 by mrsbjsmith

We started in Eureka and when we got to the part where is shows the trail over the water, there was no way to cross the river, it dead ends. We took the road to the left and it took us through dispersed camping but the roads were so rough, we decided not to go further. It was just too rough for us. If it stayed the trail it would have been wonderful.

Did It Again

Back in Kalispell and needed to take a ride. Started at Meridian Road and went west towards Kila. Turned around at Batavia. Homeless under the first bridge and another guy parked truck on trail near bridge. Otherwise nice ride until it goes along busy Hwy 2. Just noisy along that part. A number of folks out on Sunday morning.

Polson Bike Transit Loop

Okay

We started at Riverside Park and followed the trail clockwise (the best direction unless a steep hill climb is preferred). Through town we didn’t follow the map exactly, avoided travelling on Main street where more traffic and no bike lanes. There are not any trail signs to follow. Eventually the trail connects to the Carol Sampson Sherick trail. This is the portion of trail which was the old railroad bed. Trail is wide and nicely paved, easy railroad grade climb to top of hill. Saw a couple deer along the trail. Trail could use some weed control love and crack seal but over all good. If wanting a long ride can continue straight at top of hill and follow wide paved path all the way to Ronan. We turned right on Caffrey road, the trail follows alongside road with a curb between road and trail. Next intersection made the right turn and eventually climbed to top of hill overlooking Polson and Flathead Lake. Then the trail goes down the steep grade into town. Eventually wandered city streets back to start. My mileage was to be 10.5 miles and very little deviation from trail, if anything we were a bit short on mileage from not exactly following map. Overall, some nice portions and some not so nice.

Pretty Good City Trail-Mostly

July, 2024 by mrsbjsmith

From Kalispell to Somers Most of the time followed Hwy 93 which was noisy. Loved it when the path was further away from the highway and closer to Somers. Somers is a nice quaint town, had lunch at Dels and was back in Kalispell in no time on our e-bikes.

Kalispell Parkline Linear Park and Trail

Nice City Path

July, 2024 by mrsbjsmith

Rode the entire trail since it was an easy connection to the Northwest Historic trail. There are some homeless who hang around but it’s a beautiful trail. Parked at the end opposite to the Historic trail to add to it.

Gateway to Glacier Trail

Nice path

Love how wide and easy to follow this path is. Stayed near Coram for the summer and ride this to Hungry Horse and to West Glacier. The traffic is noisy, not much scenery because it follows the highway. You do have to go around a couple of spots but we still enjoyed it. I wouldn’t classify this trail as scenic.

Enjoyed This Short Trail

July, 2024 by acewickwire

Rode this trail in 2022, not sure why I didn't submit a review. Headed back to Kalispell soon and most certainly will ride once again. Great improvement to the city and nicely done trail. Fun to see the engine on display and ride through Depot Park. Easy connection at West end to the Great Northern Historical Trail for a much longer ride.

Gateway to Glacier Trail

Good If In the Area

Parked in front of the Dam Town Tavern in Hungry Horse and rode from there. (Stay on the right side of road until Coram then switch to left side.) The trail description on TrailLink is pretty accurate plus the trail is easy to follow. Started ride on Sunday morning early, certainly is traffic on highway but not terrible, no other trail users on the way out but did see a few on the return. Trail is in good condition, generally wide and smooth surface. It is gradual uphill for the first 6 miles, didn’t really seem like it with except for a couple steep hills. At West Glacier end of trail continued on into Glacier NP on the bike path from park headquarters area to Apgar. Ended up using all my battery power by time of return to Hungry Horse, total of 30 miles. Normally, can go further on the battery but without realizing how much uphill the first part used more battery. Enjoyed the early morning ride with the real treat of riding into Glacier NP and Apgar. Trail does continue a short distance from center of Hungry Horse to the west and across the South Fork.

Great Northern Historical Trail

Pretty good trail

I would have given it 5 stars but on the Kila side it was BUMPY! Having broken my back a few years ago it was rough. If you start a little bit before Kila it would have been perfect! Loved stopping at Del’s at the end in Somers.

Great little ride!

We have e-bikes (Pedego) and it was beautiful! Definitely more uphill from the start to Glacier but downhill most the way back. It was a bit tricky sticking to finding the trails off the highway but we did it. Loads of fun!

Gateway to Glacier Trail

Round trip from Hungry Horse

April, 2022 by 4cwkp97b6c

We rode early in the season which meant there was much less road noise than normal. That also meant the trail hadn’t been cleared yet. Lots of debris and pea gravel left over from melting snow. Lots of piled snow on the trail near access roads, not great for me on my road bike but my husband had no trouble with his hybrid. Beautiful wide trail with hills that get you breathing hard without killing you.
