Google Maps takes you to the wrong location. Use the directions listed here. Very chill flat path, beautiful river, and saw lots of wildlife.

San Diego has really lost its beautiful appeal now that it is allowing people to camp anywhere.

The bridge over IL 111 is nearly done and it is looking awesome. This will take out a dangerous road crossing and let us fly down the trail.

We enjoyed it. Rode 1/2 way and then stopped and went back. Parked at the end point circle. Total 11 miles round trip at mid point. Our 5 year old son was getting tired. Otherwise for adults could have gone the whole way and back!

It now crosses Sardis Rd in Shannon Hills and runs over to Vimy Ridge Rd close to the intersection with Germania Rd

I'm used to riding on gravel and I have ridden sections of this trail many times so I know what to expect. This last winter and spring have been pretty hard on the trail. Obviously some knuckleheads on bikes and horses have been on the trail when its been wet and soft and in spots its chewed up. There is also a need for some more driveway pack in sections as the larger stones that underlay the wear surface are poking through. The culvert under Hooksett Road is washed out and very rough, some drainage work needs to be done at this location. Not sure who is actually responsible for maintenance.

I drove out today as I was excited for a nice long trail but 2 miles in I was going to turn around because the stones were so large, it was a very bumpy ride. I went out 5 hoping it would improve but it did not. Ugh then 5 back. If paved it will be great. It was also 2 1/2 miles of unpaved dusty, potholed road in which was also a big turnoff.

Due to recent storms (ice and heavy rains) the trail is blocked. Biking would is impossible. The first 3 miles of trail from Scandinavia toward Amherst Jct. had at least 20 large trees down across the trail. The locals said the trail from Scandinavia toward Manawa was in a similar condition. The trail winds through beautiful woodland. Hopefully some groups with chain saws and ATV’s can help with cleanup and clearing the trail.

Date of ride April 17, 2026. My wife and I started at the trail head in Colfax. Easy parking right at the trail head. Rode the trail from parking area to the Hazelrigg area then back. We did pass a few folks out enjoying the day - all friendly! Beautiful scenery and lots of wildlife along the trail. It’s true though that there are some pretty rough spots in and around the Thornton area. We took it slow and it was fine - bumpy- but fine. All in all it was an awesome ride and for sure will ride it again. Hoping to try it from the Lebanon direction next.

This is a great trail to feel isolated in South Florida. I barely saw any humans on my 30-mile round trip to Manatee Bay. I would recommend taking a look at the map because some comments are saying to take the "west side" of the canal. But there are 2 trail heads. So if you go down one or the other, the rule is the opposite. Just use the maps, and you will be good! Saw a few gators and one manatee. Its a shame that the point where you get to Manatee Bay is completely littered with garbage. This trail is rocky so not recommended for street bikes. I have a fat tire bike and it was pretty fun.

That final section is now paved. This Trail's length helps it be a good start for the new year. Notice, however there is a West Wind that goes the entire length. Most of the time it's not too bad because the overhanging trees break it up.

Kankakee is half gravel half asphalt. It’s a perfect 15 miles so back & forth you can get a nice 30. Adding miles through town isn’t hard just watch the areas you go through. It is a BEAUTIFUL trail! It travels through Kankakee State Parks & along the Kankakee River. Some rises & falls, nice little hills. Cute bridges one big suspension bridge over a creek where locals swim in the summer. The far (NW) side of the trail has a pit toilet & an archery setup with a big stand. You ride through campgrounds, suburb sections, fairgrounds, parks, make sure to stop at the Indian Cave. Lots of photos ops along the trail. I really highly recommend checking it out!

It was a beautiful ride through the woods with lots of really interesting history. But there were lots of bumps due to tree roots which were hard to see due to the leaves covering them! We felt it was a bit too rough with our new e-bikes but that is simply a personal preference. We loved the posts along the way with interesting facts about how the RR was built. The Badwell Cemetery along the route was also so very interesting. We would recommend this trail if you don't mind the bumps!

Completed North and South in late March. Most of the ride is in the bike lane or shoulder of the road. Small sections of trail exist. Some of it very rough due to tree roots.
