The Atkinson Canal Trail is a 1.4-mile multipurpose pathway built over a disused irrigation ditch in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. The trail’s northern endpoint is on 27th Street near the traffic circle, where it curves as it gently descends into the river valley. From there the path is a flat, stained-concrete ribbon on the west bank of the Roaring Fork River. Private homes line the route. About a mile in, trail users will see the Old Cardiff Bridge overhead. From there it’s another half-mile to the end of the trail. The trail climbs back up to street level where it terminates at the Midland Avenue trailhead.
Parking is available at both the 27th Street and Midland Avenue. See the trail map
This is a beautiful concrete trail along the Colorado River. Although it is a short trail, it joins other trails.
