To reach the northern trailhead, take State Route 4 to the Somersville Road Exit in Antioch, then drive south (toward the hills) on Somersville Road until it enters the Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve. Continue another mile or so to the park entrance station and park in the lot. The trailhead is at the south end of the main parking lot.
To reach the southern trailhead, continue on Sommersville Road past the visitor center for another mile, and you will come to a small parking lot. You can park in here to access the rail-trail from the south end.
Mostly this location is good to hike. MTB was tough since there’s some pretty steep hills and not a ton of room to run. me and my friend had fun but we had to walk our bikes up a couple times. We are also both almost 60 year old women so… Maybe a young 25 year old guy can write up those with no problem …¿ but we didn’t see anybody else riding bicycles there maybe one guy. a lot of the areas are not shaded or protected so don’t go when it’s over 90°. But it’s a beautiful spot with some cool areas to explore. but if I was gonna go back I would probably just go for hiking
Best place to hike that I've found in the east bay! Dozens of trails leading in all different directions, rich with history, nice rangers to answer questions, and a super awesome inexpensive mine your on the weekends!
