This mile long concrete trail connects two favorite recreation spots in southeast St. Louis. At one end sits Carondelet Park is the city's third largest park, and is 180-acres of beautifully landscaped grounds, two large lakes, stunning outdoor architecture, and picnic, play and sports facilities. It's also home to a recreation center complete with swimming pool. The hike and bike trail begins on Grand Drive, near the Holly Hills Drive intersection and winds through the park. At Loughborough Avenue, the trail is sandwiched between an active railroad and a shopping center. The trail then parallels I-55 to Germain Street, where users can pick up the River Des Peres Greenway Trail for another 9 miles of walking, jogging or biking.
Parking is available at Carondelet Park. You can park at the rec center and then take the sidewalk along Holly Hills Drive to Grand Drive, where the trail begins. There is also a small lot along the River Des Peres Trail on Germain Street, about 400 ft north of the connector's start point.
