This is an example of a rail-with-trail, sitting as it does within the right-of-way of the DART light rail through Richardson, Texas. It derives its name from the Central Expressway, parallel to the trail. The Central Trail runs between the Gatalyn Woodland Preserve in the north and Buckingham Road, a total of over 4 miles. For a long stretch the trail is tucked underneath the elevated track, but in parts, criss-crossing intersecting streets as it goes. Oftentimes trail users will find themselves sandwiched between the railroad and a screen of trees shielding them from it from traffic. The trail transitions into the Spring Creek Trail across Glenville Drive.
