Clinton River Spillway Bike Path Description

The Clinton River Spillway Trail passes through a mostly wooded corridor above and parallel to the spillway between Velger Boat Harbor on Lake St. Clair and Shady Side Park in Mt. Clemens. At the east end, the trail follows the north bank; at the west end, the south bank before crossing again at Shady Side Park. Watch your head where the trail goes under Interstate 94!

The spillway bike path links to the Metro Parkway trail, which goes to Metro Beach.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available at Shady Side Park in Mt. Clemens (Barbara St. and Shadyside Dr.) and at a small park at 26784 Ballard Street.

Clinton River Spillway Bike Path Reviews

From the parking lot to the park and then all the way to the deck overlooking where the river flows into Lake St. Clair is about 5 miles.

This was a good extra 5 miles attached to the metro trail. Was able to ride 20 miles a day with this additional 5 miles right off the metro trail.

5/31/16: Have rode this trail many times but for first timers I tried to ride the trail a couple weeks aggo with my wife and there is construction and the trail is closed on the other side of the freeway (not sure which direction this is) heading to downtown Mount Clemens.
The trail from the freeway to Lake St. Clair along the spillway is open and the trail from the freeway / spillway heading out to Metro Beach is also open.
Not sure what or how long the construction is planned for. I enjoy riding this section of the spillway to Mount Clemens as normally there are few people on the trail.

this is a great trail which is ride alot Weekly, But there is a part up the hill towards the lake that is really hard on Road bike. Roots have tore up the pavement pretty bad. But it offers one of the few hills in the area. So race on.
