The Downtown Trail—also known as the River Trail and Riverwalk Trail—runs alongside the Fond du Lac River for nearly 2 miles in the heart of Fond du Lac. The vast majority of the trail is smooth asphalt, but a short segment at its southern end (just before a trail bridge over the river) has a rougher crushed stone surface.
Leave the trail at 1st Street or 2nd Street to access Fond du Lac's charming downtown, centered on Main Street (just two blocks east of the trail). The Downtown Trail connects at both ends to the Brooke Street Trail, a paved rail-trail spanning the length of the city. Note that accessing the Brooke Street Trail from the Downtown Trail's southern end requires a brief trip west on Brush Street, which dead-ends at the trail.
There are no official parking areas for the Downtown Trail, but parking is plentiful along city streets. Be sure to observe any posted parking restrictions.
