The Erie Rail Trail runs 2.6 miles through the town of Huntington, linking Huntington University, Yeoman Park, and more. The rail-trail is wide and paved with a pedestrian bridge over the Little River.
The northern end of the trail provides connections to Parkview Huntington Hospital, the YMCA, Crestview Middle School, and Heritage of Huntington Senior Living Center. From its northern end on County Road 500 North, the trail heads west and then south along Stults Road. Briefly curving through an area of wetland, the trail crosses Gragg Street. This northern section of the trail was added as a 0.75-mile extension in 2024.
From Gragg Street, the Erie Rail Trail runs south along a wide asphalt path nestled in between Huntington University and the university's cross country course. This portion of the route follows a wooded path before reaching Yeoman Park. Yeoman Park offers a playground, baseball diamond, restrooms and playground equipment.
South of Little River, the trail passes an active rail line and crosses the Little River to Riverside Park/Erie Heritage Park (Riverside Dr, Huntington). At the park, the southern end of the trail connects to the Little River Trail, which continues west and provides a link to downtown Huntington.
Constructed by HARTA (Huntington Area Recreational Trails Association) in 2015, the majority of the Erie Rail Trail follows the old Erie Rail Bed. The 0.75-mile northern extension opened in 2024. It will one day stretch south of Huntington to the 4-H fairgrounds.
Yeoman Park, along 2nd St., offers parking for trail users.
See TrailLink Map for more detailed directions.
