The Goose Pond Path, also known as the In-Town Bike Path, offers a short paved route on the charming island of Nantucket, which lies south of Cape Cod. The trail overlooks The Creeks area of Nantucket Harbor and is only a half mile from downtown. Although only a tenth of a mile long, it's part of a larger effort to connect multi-use trails and bike lanes across the town.
The pathway was built on a section of the Nantucket Railroad, a narrow-gauge line that opened in 1881 and was taken up in 1917. Operating seasonally, the NRR hauled passengers and light freight nine miles from the ferry terminal in the Town of Nantucket to the tourist village of Siasconset.
