The Mattapoisett Rail Trail, when completed, aims to connect the towns of Fairhaven, Mattapoisett, and Marion through 23 miles of connected bikeways. Section 1 of the Mattapoisett Rail Trail stretches 1.9 miles from the end of the Phoenix Bike Trail at Shaw Rd. into the village of Mattapoisett. The trail occupies the former right-of-way of the Old Colony Rail Road, which dates to 1851 and once called the "Old Colony Mile."
The newest section, Section 1B or the "Shining Tides Mile" is a new beautifully-constructed boardwalk that winds along the shore of Mattapoisett Harbor, with steps and ramps down towards the beach.
There is parking at Brant Island Rd. Where the trail ends at Goodspeed Island Rd, continue for 0.2 miles on the road north, where there is another parking lot. It is also accesible by bike from the Phoenix Bike Trail.
The Mattapoisett Rail Trail goes along the ocean and over marshland. It is absolutely beautiful. Although short, it seamlessly merges into the Fairhaven Rail Trail almost out to Fort Phoenix. Highly recommended.
I started my ride from Fairhaven the Phoenix trail and continued east. Many small side trips options .There are plenty of parking options on Mattapoisett end too.
Straight ride through some beautiful scenery. Really short but a great ride none the less.
Short and wonderful. Very smooth and gentle hills. I could not tell where this one and Phoenix joined, so it was all one to me.
