Thanks to the efforts of the city and county of Missoula, the Grant Creek Trails Association, landowners who donated trail easements, and other partners, the Grant Creek Trail is a reality.
The paved trail stretches 3.3 miles through a rural landscape of open pastures and woodland, all private land. The northern end of the trail is by the intersection of Grant Creek Road and Mellot Lane. The route mostly parallels Grant Creek Road, veering away near the south end of the trail (around Prospect Drive).
Homes become more common near the southern portions of the trail. The trail crosses streets and private driveways. Please stay on the public trail.
The southern end of the trail is at the intersection of Grant Creek Road and I-90. Amenities include carved trailside benches and signs interpreting the area's natural, cultural, and indigenous history.
Near the southern end of the trail, the city's Bluebird Preserve offers several short trails that are open to pedestrian and equestrian use. Please note the Overlook Trail is pedestrian-use only.
Public parking is available at the Bluebird Preserve Trailhead on the east side of Grant Creek Road, between Expo Parkway and Stonebridge Road. The trailhead has an unpaved parking lot, interpretative signage, and provides access to the Bluebird Preserve's shared-use trails which overlook the City of Missoula.
