The Little Bay de Noc Trail sits on the western edge of the bay, running between the cities of Gladstone and Escanaba in the Upper Peninsula. It’s a smooth asphalt multipurpose pathway, which begins at the trailhead in Van Cleve Park. The waterfront park also features bike racks, a bike repair station and water fountains for trail travelers. From the park, the trail parallels Lakeshore Drive, and then heads south along US 41/ SR 35, keeping close to the water’s edge. There are benches and overlooks, where trail users can pause to appreciate the uninterrupted views of the bay.
The Little Bay de Noc Trail is the culmination of a 15-year vision, and has been embraced by the community, so much so that there was a successful crowdfunding effort to raise part of the money for trail construction. The trail was officially opened in 2017, and Delta County Non-Motorized Trails (DCNTrails) is responsible for the its maintenance.
The official trailhead is in Van Cleve Park (1224 Lake Shore Dr, Gladstone). The park also features access to Gladstone Beach, as well as a fishing pier, a skate park, athletic facilities (baseball, basketball, volleyball) and exercise stations.
