This is a U-shaped multiple use pathway in Grand Prairie, Dallas County. Beginning at the Grand Prairie Tourist Information Center in Lone Star Park, the trail then travels south parallel to N Beltline Road. Continuing left and east along Trinity River, and after a right turn onto Hunter Ferrell Road, the trail inks up with the City of Irving’s Campion Trail.
Park at Lone Star Park (1000 Lone Star Pkwy); its sprawling campus features a convert venue, racing track and even a minor league baseball stadium.
We planned to ride both legs, but the one that ends at McArthur is closed about a mile out from Lone Star Park. We turned around and completed the western leg as planned. Not surprisingly, lots of rocks and pot holes on that trail. There was a lot of tree debris on the western leg. Not sure if it was the day of the week or time (Tuesday @ around 1000), but we were the only ones on the trail. It was a nice trail but I would have been more comfortable with a bit more activity.
We explored the newly opened section of this trail that leads west. It’s nice and wide just like the other section that runs east. A large retention pond is visible from the trail. Hopefully this will be a good birding spot during the winter.
