The Long View Trail is a north-south trail connecting Loveland to Fort Collins. The trail is a ribbon of pavement winding across Larimer County’s scenic outdoors. In fact, as it parallels 57th Street, and then south Shields Street, the trail travels through five different natural areas from Sunset Vista in Loveland, through Long View Open Space (preserved agricultural lands), Colina Mariposa, Hazeleus and the Cathy Fromme Prairie Natural Area. At its south endpoint, it connects to the Loveland Recreation Trail, which rings around Loveland for 22 miles. At the its north end, it connects to the Fossil Creek Trail via an underpass which takes riders under south Shields Street and into the Cathy Fromme Prairie Natural Area.
On the south end, you can park in the Sunset Vista Natural Area (1323 W. 57th St., Loveland)
If you are starting from the north end, you can park in the Cathy Fromme Prairie Natural Area, in the lot off S. Shields Street (920 Hilldale Dr., Ft. Collins).
I did the Long view trail for the first time and it was a challenge. It has some good sized hills. I did the long loop from Laporte to Loveland over to Boyd lake and back to north Fort Collins. I started from my home town of Laporte and ended north Fort Collins near highway One. 34 miles.
