Running along an old section of the Miami & Erie Canal, this trail is also known as the Miami-Erie Canal Trail and the Port Union-Gilmore Ponds Historic Canal Trail. This multiuse paved trail is flat and runs for a majority of the route along the old canal near residential, light industrial, and farm areas. Some parts of the canal are filled with water, other sections are dry or over grow. Areas along the trail are active with birds and wildlife.
Currently the trail is out-and-back and dead-ends after passing under Ohio State Route 4. However, there is current construction connecting it to the nearby Gilmore MetroPark (7950 N Gilmore Rd, Hamilton).
This trail is not part of the Great Miami River Trail in nearby Hamilton.
Butler County Regional Transit Authority (BCRTA) provides access to the trail. Visit the BCRTA website to plan your visit.
The northern trailhead (8322 Seward Rd, Fairfield) is about on quarter mile from the northern dead end of the trail. This trailhead has a paved parking lot and signage with a map of the trail system.
The southern trailhead is near the intersection of Ohio State Route 4 and Port Union-Rialto Road. There is no parking area for the trail, but there are nearby business parking areas which might be used.
