The Norway Branch Rail Trail sits on the former railbed of the Norway Branch Railroad which once connected the communities of Norway and South Paris. The trail runs from Beal Street in the west to Alpine Street in the east. Although the railroad went out of operation decades ago, the tracks and ties remained, and residents were using this as a shortcut to get to the Gouin Athletic complex on Alpine Street. In 2019, thanks to funding provided in part by the New Balance shoe company, Norway was able to clear the makeshift path and upgrade it into an accessible, multi-purpose trail with a stone dust surface.
There is a small lot on the west endpoint of the trail, on Beal Street. On the east side, you can park at the Skate Park on the corner of Charles and Railroad Street, one block over from the Alpine Street endpoint.
Walked this trail for many years and they have fix it up nice
This is a great trail for strollers or wheelchairs. It's short and crosses main roads, but it's well marked and has a good base for pushing a wheelchair.
