Ottumwa Trail System Description

The Ottumwa Trail System provides a scenic north-south route along the Des Moines River through the center of Ottumwa. Along the way, trail-goers can enjoy many of the city's natural treasures, including Gray Eagle Nature Preserve, Turkey Island and Ottumwa Park.

The Wapello County Trails Council provides a live webcam located in the center of the former Wabash Bridge spanning the Des Moines River in Ottumwa. The former Wabash Bridge is now part of the Wapello County Trails System. The camera pans up and down the bridge and the Des Moines River, updating every 15 seconds, 24 hours a day.

Parking and Trail Access

At the southern end of the trail, parking is available at the Gray Eagle Wildlife Reserve. Mid-trail, a trailhead and parking is available from the Bridge View Center on Church Street near the Market Street bridge.

Ottumwa Trail System Reviews

Nice trail

I thoroughly enjoyed riding this trail in early August 2024. I rode every direction and back more than once. I really liked the old bridge with the eagle blind. If I lived here I would ride this everyday. Five stars!

Lived in this town most of my life so I've walked these trails many times during spring and summer and always loved it.

Nice Trail

It won't be challenging enough for the hard core biker, but I was pleasantly surprised and thought it was an enjoyable trail. It's mostly flat and a nice ride. It travels along the river, across interesting bridges, and behind parks, businesses, and homes. Lots to look at and was fun to ride today. It's not point A to point B but has many different paths.
