Piedmont Medical Center Trail Description

Following the Catawba River, the Piedmont Medical Center Trail (formerly the Riverwalk) stretches 3.35 miles through Rock Hill near the border between North and South Carolina. The route is part of both the Rock Hill Trails & Greenways System and the Carolina Thread Trail, a system of trails and greenways connecting 15 counties across the Carolinas. The paved multiuse trail is 10ft wide with a mix of flat and hilly sections.

From its northern end (575 Herrons Ferry Rd, Rock Hill), the wooded trail closely hugs the western shoreline of Catawba River and traverses the mixed-use community of Riverwalk, extending south to the River Park (1782 Quality Cir, Rock Hill).

A little over two miles south along the trail, the Riverwalk Trestle is a historic railroad bridge towering just above the trail. South of the trestle, the trail's rubberized surface provides the smoothness of asphalt with the give of a softer tread. Located between trail mile markers 2.25 and 2.50, the Catawba River Trailhead (100 Celriver Rd, Rock Hill) is just south of the trestle and has restrooms, a drinking fountain, and parking.

Continuing to wind along the west bank of the Catawba River, the trail heads through River Park where its southern end is located where Quality Circle dead ends at a parking lot.

Restrooms and parking are available at the northern trailhead, at the Catawba River Trailhead, and at River Park. The northern trailhead and River Park have canoe/kayak launches. There is a little free library along the trail near the northern end and there are benches placed at multiple points along the route.

The trail is prone to flooding. Check the City of Rock Hill's park status page after periods of heavy rainfall.

Pets on a 3ft leash are welcome on the trail.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking is available at the northern trailhead (575 Herrons Ferry Rd, Rock Hill), at the Catawba River Trailhead (100 Celriver Rd, Rock Hill), and at River Park (1782 Quality Cir, Rock Hill).

Piedmont Medical Center Trail Reviews

love this trail

My husband and I love this trail

Best joy ride in Charlotte

Mostly flat by the catawba river best joy ride in Charlotte Metro area. After your ride enjoy a adult beverage at the Pump House , Brass Tap or Grapevine at the end. If you go all the way to river park it's about 4 miles not 2.5.

Well Maintained

We started at the area close to The Pump House. I believe the trail is longer than 2.5 miles. Scenery is nice. Somewhat shaded.

Fun & Challenging

The trail is now 3.3 miles I believe & has some good hills to climb. It’s a beautiful ride, great atmosphere, safe & has some wonderful places to relax afterwards (Grape Vine, Brass Tap, etc).

Great Find!

Evenly spaced hill and flat spaces. Costing down the hills is fantastic! Three riders of various levels and all loved it! We'll be back!

Family fun

Took the family to this trail for our first family ride on Memorial day. it was busy but it is a beautiful ride. A few steep hills and 3 off road trails as well. Great area.

Good walk

Nice trail with a good combination of inclines and flat sections. The trail has been expanded to connect to River Park making this about a 6.5 mile walk from Piedmont Medical Trail to River Park and back. Beautiful area and the folks on the trail are friendly. I would have given it 5 stars, but they need to add more places to sit along the old and new sections and restrooms for the public to use.

Great Walk

It's really a pretty walk and there are about 5 hills to go up and down. 3 large and 2 smaller inclines. But all in all it's a pretty flat walk on a wide paved trail. Monitored by watchman in a motorized cart, so if you have trouble there are folks around to help you. Runs along the river and if you go early the morning you see the deer and can listen to the river run. Very relaxing but don't let it fool ya, it's a really good walk for the exercise.
