The Waterford Trail is a 1.5-mile segment of the Carolina Thread Trail, a system of trails and greenways in the Carolinas.
Beginning by the River Park kayak/canoe launch, the wooded trail meanders alongside Manchester Creek, crossing it twice via pedestrian bridges, before curving to follow the Catawba River for approximately 0.5 miles. Turning away from the river, the trail changes from natural surface to pavement as it passes behind the Waterford Golf Club before ending by the Overview Drive semicircle.
The wooded area around Manchester Creek and the Catawba River is home to numerous species of wildlife and is a favorite for birdwatchers. The trail offers beautiful views of the Catawba River and is suitable for walking, biking, and strollers. Pets on a leash are welcome.
For a longer walk or bike ride, combine the Waterford Trail with the Wetland Trail, the Piedmont Medical Center Trail and the River Trail.
