The Riverside Trail (or Riverside Park Trail) meanders alongside Middle Raccoon River. The trail begins on Velvet Avenue and 320th Street in Coon Rapids, Iowa and wanders into the riparian woodland on the east bank of the river. It is an asphalt trail for walking, biking and bird-watching, among other activities. About halfway through its journey south, the trail splits, with the east branch leading to the Campground on Walnut Avenue while the other continues along the bank into the heavily treed Riverside Park. Find river access here for fishing, kayaking and canoeing. The trail exits the park and concludes at Main Street. There are plans to turn the trail into a loop rather than an out-and-back trail by building a trail alongside Velvet Avenue.
The best place to start your journey is Riverside Park (off E63 just east of Sumpter Avenue), and then either head north or south.
The northern parking area sits on 320th Street, near the Velvet Avenue intersection.
The southern parking area is a small lot found on Main Street.
