Overview
The Newburgh Rivertown Trail runs through Newburgh, Indiana, along the scenic Ohio River. It is a 3.6-mile route, often considered a one-way route because of a brief on-road one-way section along West Water St, although other sections can be ridden in both directions.
The entire route is paved, and the trail is relatively flat.
About the Route
Starting from the eastern endpoint of the trail near the Newburgh Locks and Dam, the trail heads west, passing the Indian Hills Overlook Park, and alongside State Route 662. This is generally considered the best starting point for the trail, because of a one-way section along W Water St.
The trail continues along State Route 662, passing by the Old Locks and Dam Park. As the trail heads into downtown Newburgh, the one-way section of the trail begins as the route passes Sycamore St. The trail here is on-road and trail users will share the road with vehicle traffic. Signs along the way direct trail users and remind them of the one-way traffic.
Just after passing Plumb St., trail users will see the entrance to the trail obscured in a shady copse of trees. This westernmost section of the trail is once again open to two-way traffic and is off-road. This section winds slightly north to the Ascension-Aurand Trailhead and then west again, passing the Newburgh Junior Baseball Field, before reaching the western end of the trail along S Pollack Ave.
The Newburgh River Trail runs between the Newburgh Locks and Dam, 6877 IN-66 (Newburgh), where parking is available, and North Pollack Ave. (Newburgh).
