Riverwoods Trail - Missouri River Greenway Description

Although a relatively short route, the Riverwoods Trail offers plentiful scenic views of the Missouri River and historic St. Charles. The trail closely follows the river's shoreline through wetland forest. Begin your journey at the northern trailhead off St. Charles Rock Road in Bridgeton, where you'll find restrooms, picnic tables and parking.

It is hoped that one day the trail will connect to the famed Katy Trail on the other side of the river. It currently does connect to the Earth City Levee Trail, forming a paved loop.

Parking and Trail Access

A parking lot is available at the trailhead located off St. Charles Rock Road, just west of the Earth City Expressway/State Route 141.

Riverwoods Trail - Missouri River Greenway Reviews

The spring floods of 2017 really did a number on this trail. In fact, a portion of the trail eroded and the trail got rerouted at a small part. That section is currently gravel, so skating isn't an option. Everywhere else in the park is paved trail and is very nice. The floods did create a lot of mud banks too.

The loop is a beautiful section, mostly shaded. But there's a washed out section near the river and the lovely asphalt trail has been replaced with a gravel trail. Still works for walkers and bikers, but skaters beware!

they have added on so much if u start at the side off of 370, and ride all the way to the end (near 70 and back its about 8 miles rou d trip. it was 9, but the floodi g washed out part of the loop and its blocked off, but still an amazing ride!

I just discovered this path about a month ago - what a gem! One side is 1.6 miles, so round trip it is 3 miles. But the other side is also 1.6 miles, so doing both sides is 6 miles.

But it is breathtaking! One side of the path is all a view of the Missouri River. But the other side is entirely woods - and right now, blooming all over the place is beautiful yellow flowers! It is just breathtaking.

Very few people there, so you almost have the path to yourself. I rode both sides twice, so a good 12 mile ride.

(One path is along the river, with the river on one side, and the woods w/ flowers on the other; the other path is near the levy, with the woods on one side!

I recently received as a gift my very first adult bicycle and wanted to find safe places where I could ride it and if I could get some scenery in while riding then that is a bonus. I found this location this week on trailink and was excited to learn it would be both safe and scenic, but as an added bonus it happens to be very close to where I live. So, I decided today that rain or shine, I was going to go and ride there today and be adventurous. I have ridden some trails at other parks that were closer and one that was farther, but this one has a wide path. It was a smooth ride and I was able to come home, eat some dinner, change clothes and drive there and get my trail in before the sun set completely. I have found my new home away from home. It is perfect for the person who isn't quite ready for the challenges of climbing mountains with their bikes. I didn't use my breaks at all on this trail except to capture some killer sunset photos. I will be going back here for sure.
