Overview
The Waco Lake Hike and Bike Trail runs from 2.8 miles through the city of Waco, Texas largely alongside Lake Waco. The trail takes users over the Waco Dam and through Airport Beach Park, located near the airport.
About the Route
With the exception of a short sloped section near the Lakeshore Drive trailhead, the Waco Lake Hike and Bike Trail is very flat. The trail is 10ft wide and paved with concrete.
For the entire route, trail users will be surrounded on one side by the lake and grassy hills on the opposite side. The trail also consists of long straight sections that ride on top of the earthen berm.
A highlight of the trail is passing over the Waco Dam, especially if water is being released from the lake and running down the spillway into the Bosque River. Trail users should note that there is little to no shade cover along the trail.
The Waco Lake Hike and Bike Trail runs between Airport Beach Park, 4600 Skeet Eason Rd (Waco), where some parking is available, and Lake Shore Dr. (Waco).
Parking is also available off Airport Rd.
See TrailLink Map for all parking options and detailed directions.
As an engineer, I found this trail very interesting. It passes over a dam and the mechanisms that open and close the gates are clearly visible. The elevation of the dam provides a good view. Mostly unshaded.
