Windsor Castle Park Trails Description

Located in the 208-acre riverside Windsor Castle Park, this trail system winds along picturesque creeks and marshes, through woodlands and open spaces, and offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscapes. The park is situated next to downtown Smithfield and is within easy walking distance of the town's shops, restaurants, attractions, and local residences.

Built according to "Sustainable Trail Design" standards, there are 3.8 miles of ADA-compliant walking trails. Crossing creeks and marshes, the route includes five pedestrian bridges. Overlooks with benches are placed along the trail for resting and taking in the views.

The walking paths are reserved for pedestrians only (no bikes, horses, skateboards, etc.), but the park has a half-mile off-road cycling trail. For those interested in tracking mileage, there are numbered station markers along the route and the park's website provides more information.

Dogs on leashes are allowed on the walking paths and there is a dog park with double-gated entrances, benches, water station, and dog cleaning stations. The park also has a natural playscape, a picnic area, restrooms, a historic manor house, free guided tours, a fishing pier, a boat launch and kayak/canoe rentals. The picnic area has grills, picnic tables, nearby restrooms, and a hand-washing station.

Whether you are a visitor or a local, Windsor Castle Park has something for everyone and the walking paths are a wonderful way to explore all it has to offer.

Parking and Trail Access

If you're coming from Smithfield, the park is within easy walking, rolling, or biking distance. The main entrance to the park is on Jericho Road off Cedar Street (302 Jericho Rd). Additional access to the trail is available at the end of South Mason Street via the Mason Street Bridge in the historic downtown area, at the Station Bridge off South Church Street (390 S Church St), and from a number of entrances in downtown Smithfield.

For those driving, parking is available in parking lots at the locations listed above and several others as well. There is at least one accessible parking space at the lot on Jericho Road (302 Jericho Rd), the lot on South Church Street (390 S Church St), and at the kayak boat launch parking lot (705 Cedar St). Windsor Castle Park Trails Reviews

Horrible Bike Trail

Husband and I went for the first time and it was horrible. We started biking a few weeks ago. Did not like the bike trail here. While I understand it’s a nature trail it is not for any bike. Roots sticking up out of the ground 6inches high. Your not supposed to ride bikes on the nice flat trail but we ended up doing just that. Trails for bikes are not marked well either. My husband flipped his bike on one of the hills. Will not be going back for the bike trail that’s for sure.

Nice trail!
