The South Beach Trail is the perfect route to explore the many gems that make Miami Beach such an iconic destination. Start at the southern tip of barrier island, in South Beach, where you’ll find popular restaurants like Joe’s Stone Crab, a seafood institution; Nikki Beach, a restaurant, lounge and beach club popular with the beautiful set; and Smith & Wollensky, an upscale steakhouse on the water that affords views of ships leaving through the Government Cut waterway.
Then, head north through Lummus Park along the ocean; wander onto the sand and dip your toes in the water to cool off. Also in Lummus Park, there are playgrounds for kids and fitness stations for adults, and you can sign up for a tour of the Art Deco Historic District at the Art Deco Welcome Center. You’ll learn about such mid-century landmark hotels as Park Central, Clevelander, The Tides, Carlyle Hotel, Cardozo Hotel and Raleigh Hotel.
Keep heading north on South Beach Trail to the end of Lummus Park, and you’ll be just a couple blocks away from the pedestrian-friendly open-air Lincoln Road Mall, boasting restaurants like Juvia, Sushisamba and (just south a block south) Yardbird Southern Table & Bar alongside shops like Intermix, All Saints and Madewell. Just north of Lincoln Road is the popular music venue The Fillmore Miami Beach, a mid-sized venue that attracts national talent.
Continue trekking north on South Beach Trail, and you’ll be flanked by luxurious and historic hotels at every turn, like Delano South Beach, SoHo Beach House and SLS South Beach. Duck into some shade at parks along the way, such as the Miami Beach Boardwalk and Collins Park, offering the adjacent Bass Museum of diverse art, artifacts and a sculpture garden. Soon, you’ll encounter the Fontainebleau Miami Beach and Eden Roc Miami Beach Resort before the trail ends at Indian Beach Park. Whether you want to recoup in the park or grab a meal at one of the hotel bars before turning home, you’ll be glad you did.
