The Belle Fourche River Walk weaves across the city of the same name, providing a low-stress way to explore the cultural and natural attractions of the city. The concrete-paved walking and biking path has segments along the Hay Creek and Belle Fourche River, as well as the confluence of the two with Redwater River, the 'beautiful fork' that gave the town its name.
The trail exists in two segments: one that travels east-west along Belle Fourche River, ending at the fork, and one one extending from the Roundup Grounds Sports Complex, along the river, then looping around Hermann Park before heading south along Hay Creek.
Path users can also visit the Geographic Center of the Nation Monument: Belle Fourche is the town designated by National Geodetic Survey as closest to the nation's midpoint (the actual center is about 20 miles away on private property). Next door, the Tri-State Museum preserves the history of South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana.
For the northern segment, the trailhead is at the Tri-State Museum (415 5th Ave, Belle Fourche)
For the southern segment, you can park at the Roundup Grounds Sports Complex (on Roundup Street) or Hay Creek (on 8th Avenue). View the trail map for exact locations.
